Questions are often asked about the environmental impact of fireworks – in fact their carbon footprint is tiny compared to many other forms of entertainment.

Interestingly, a recent environmental study by UK SustainAbility - commissioned by Celtic Fireworks - reported that at least 80% of emissions occur due to travel and facilities/infrastructure used by attendees at firework events. They also reported that one display at Plymouth was equivalent to one seat on a London-New York flight.

Nevertheless, we have made it a priority to make the Championships as green as they possibly can by banning the use of certain fireworks and requiring competitors to remove all the plastics that are not absolutely essential. The aim is to remove all plastics, hopefully before the end of 2025.

The British Pyrotechnic Association has also published information on the carbon footprint of displays, describing it as ‘tiny.’
